It is with deep sorrow that the St. Louis Astronomical Society relays sad news from the family of Alfred L. Woods.

After a brief serious aliment, "AL" passed away on Monday morning, November 15, 2004. Born June 21, 1911, he was 93 years old. His wife preceeded him by some years but he is survived by his children: Roselind C. Woods of Havana, FL; Alden L. Woods of Portland, OR; Pamela S. Harris of St. Louis, MO and Kennard B. Woods of Roswell GA. Pamela is a member of the St. Louis Astronomical Society. AL has two grandchildren and 5 great-grand-children.

An icon within the local astronomical community, AL was also a member of the Kirkwood United Methodist Church and a Masonic Lodge in Witchita, KS. He was well know nationally for his telescope-making activities and in particular unobstructed optical systems. His work has been featured over the years in publications such as Sky & Telescope and Amateur Telescope Maker.

AL and his family have lived in Kirkwood, MO since the mid-1950's and he has been a member of SLAS since the mid-1960's. He attended meetings regularly with his last meeting being the October meeting of this year. He attended many SLAS events over the years and was elected to a term as a board member at large to the board of directors.

Please join us in remembering AL with much joy. The members of SLAS send our sincere condolences to AL's family.
